This drawing was done at sunrise in Joshua Tree National Monument with an Inter-Tribal Medicine Man from the Shumash Indian Tribe of California. Semu was a highly respected Indian leader who shared his peyote experiences with Burt Shonberg. This drawing was the prelude to the “Aztec Vision” painting created in 1965.
